Work

You have to work to live. I’ve been lucky to have had very interesting jobs so far and to have worked with great people. If I didn’t need to work for money, I’d likely be spending all of my time traveling and saving the world. Luckily, I can do some of that while working!

Here’s some of what I’ve done at work.

Junior Environmental Scientist (Contractor), July 2010 – June 2012
I originally came to WDI R&D to do environmental assessments using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This methodology is a rigorous way to evaluate the net environmental impact of a product, process, material, or really anything across its entire life cycle (raw material extraction, processing, assembly, transportation, use, disposal, etc). It allows one to ask questions like “Am I better off using ceramic mugs or styrofoam cups?” and finding answers like “It depends on how many times you re-use your ceramic mug, but if you use it consistently, the mug is better.” Besides LCA, I also worked on general sustainability integration into Imagineering’s projects such as the Shanghai Disney Resort (even from my first week at Imagineering in 2010).

After a few years of working solely on sustainability, I began to branch out and had limited engagements with the Blue Sky group, producing internal Culture and Community events, and other small projects. A variety of small opportunities led to a chance to work as the Producer on the 2016 update of Turtle Talk with Crush at Disney’s California Adventure and EPCOT. In this role, I worked as both a Creative and Technical Producer, ensuring the story and creative development remained on track while the technical aspects kept pace. As soon as the domestic version of the attraction was complete, I was given the opportunity to update the same attraction at Tokyo Disney Sea in Japan.

I currently still work in the Research & Development department on a variety of projects including environmental sustainability.
